7 Hvis det er en fattig blant dere, en av dine landsmenn, i noen av byene i det landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, skal du ikke forherde ditt hjerte eller lukke din hånd mot din fattige bror.

8 I stedet skal du åpne din hånd fritt for ham og låne ham det han trenger.

Vær forsiktig så du ikke har denne onde tanken: 'Det syvende året, ettergivelsesåret, er nær,' slik at du viser uvilje mot din trengende bror og ikke gir ham noe. Han kan da appellere til Herren mot deg, og du vil være skyldig i synd.

10 Du skal gi ham gavmildt, og ditt hjerte skal ikke være motvillig når du gir til ham, for på grunn av dette vil Herren din Gud velsigne deg i alt ditt arbeid og i alt du foretar deg.

11 For de fattige vil aldri opphøre å være i landet; derfor befaler jeg deg å åpne din hånd fritt for din bror, for dine trengende og fattige i ditt land.
