2 Så de tolv kalte sammen hele gruppen av disipler og sa: “Det ville ikke være passende for oss å forsømme Guds ord for å tjene ved bordene.

3 Derfor, brødre og søstre, velg ut sju menn blant dere som har godt omdømme, er fulle av Ånden og visdom, som vi kan sette til denne oppgaven.

Vi vil da vie oss til bønn og tjenesten med ordet.”

5 Dette forslaget behaget hele forsamlingen. De valgte Stefanus, en mann full av tro og Den Hellige Ånd, sammen med Filip, Prokorus, Nikanor, Timon, Parmenas, og Nikolas, en konvertitt fra Antiokia.

6 Disse mennene ble ført fram for apostlene, som ba og la hendene på dem.
