24 Da han hadde dratt, møtte en løve ham på veien og drepte ham, og hans døde kropp ble kastet på veien, med eslet stående ved siden av, og løven sto ved den døde kroppen.

25 Og se, menn passerte forbi og så den døde kroppen kastet på veien, og løven sto ved siden av kroppen; så de kom og fortalte om det i byen hvor den gamle profeten bodde.

Da profeten som hadde tatt ham med tilbake fra veien hørte om det, sa han, “Det er Guds mann, som var ulydig mot Herrens befaling; derfor har Herren gitt ham til løven, og den har revet ham og drept ham, i samsvar med Herrens ord som Han talte til ham.”

27 Så ga han sine sønner beskjed og sa, “Sal eslet for meg.” Så salte de det.

28 Og han dro og fant hans døde kropp kastet på veien, med eslet og løven stående ved den døde kroppen; løven hadde ikke spist den døde kroppen eller angrepet eslet.
