8 Gjenløseren sa da til Boas: "Kjøp det selv." Og han tok av seg sandalen.

9 Da erklærte Boas til de eldste og alle folket: "I dag er dere vitner på at jeg har kjøpt fra Noomi alt som tilhørte Elimelek, Kiljon og Mahlon.

Jeg har også fått Rut, moabittinnen, Mahlons enke, til kone, for å opprettholde navnet til den avdøde med hans eiendom, så hans navn ikke skal forsvinne fra hans slekt eller fra hans hjemby. Dere er vitner i dag."

11 Da sa alle folket ved porten og de eldste: "Vi er vitner. Måtte Herren gjøre kvinnen som kommer inn i ditt hjem lik Rakel og Lea, som sammen bygde opp Israels hus. Måtte du ha fremgang i Efrata og bli kjent i Betlehem.

12 Måtte din familie, gjennom de barna Herren gir deg ved denne unge kvinnen, bli som slekten til Peres, som Tamar fødte Juda."
