6 dro Abram gjennom landet til stedet ved More-eikaen i Sikem. På den tiden bodde kanaaneerne i landet.

7 Herren åpenbarte seg for Abram og sa: «Din ætt vil jeg gi dette landet.» Da bygde han et alter der for Herren, som hadde åpenbart seg for ham.

Derfra flyttet han opp i fjellandet øst for Betel og slo opp teltet sitt, med Betel i vest og Ai i øst. Der bygde han et alter for Herren og påkalte Herrens navn.

9 Så brøt Abram opp og fortsatte sin reise mot Negev.

10 Det ble hungersnød i landet, så Abram dro ned til Egypt for å bo der en tid, for hungersnøden var hard.
