Raushet og gavmildhet

1 Da sa kong David til hele forsamlingen:
“Min sønn Salomo, som Gud alene har utvalgt, er ung og uerfaren,
og arbeidet er stort;
for tempelet er ikke for mennesker, men for Herren Gud.

Nå har jeg med all min evne sørget for huset til min Gud:
gullet til det som skal være av gull,
sølvet til det som skal være av sølv,
bronsen til det som skal være av bronse,
jernet til det som skal være av jern,
og treet til det som skal være av tre,
onykssteiner og innlagte steiner, steiner av antimon og fargede steiner,
og alle slags edelstener og alabast i overflod.

3 Videre, fordi jeg har stor glede i huset til min Gud,
har jeg gitt min egen skatt av gull og sølv til huset til min Gud,
i tillegg til alt det jeg allerede har sørget for til det hellige tempelet:

4 spesifikt, 3000 talenter av gull (av gullet fra Ofir),
og 7000 talenter av raffinert sølv,
til å dekke veggene på bygningene;
