15 Etter at du har renset levittene og presentert dem som et viftoffer, kan de komme for å tjene ved møteteltet.

16 De er gitt helt til meg fra blant israelittene. Jeg har tatt dem for meg selv i stedet for de førstefødte av hvert morsliv, de førstefødte av alle israelittene.

For hver førstefødt i Israel, både menneske og dyr, er min. Den dagen jeg slo ned alle de førstefødte i Egypt, satte jeg dem til side for meg selv.

18 Jeg har tatt levittene i stedet for hver førstefødt blant israelittene.

19 Jeg har gitt levittene som en gave til Aron og hans sønner fra blant israelittene, for å utføre tjenesten ved møteteltet på vegne av israelittene og for å gjøre soning for dem, slik at ingen plage skal komme over israelittene når de nærmer seg helligdommen."
