10 De satte opp for seg selv minnesmerker og Ashera-påler på hver høyde og under hvert grønt tre,

11 og der brente de røkelse på alle de høye stedene, slik nasjonene gjorde som Herren hadde drevet bort foran dem; og de gjorde onde ting, og vakte Herrens vrede.

De tjente avguder, om hvilke Herren hadde sagt til dem, "Dette skal dere ikke gjøre."

13 Likevel sendte Herren budskap til Israel og Juda gjennom alle sine profeter og hver seer, og sa, "Vend om fra deres onde veier og hold mine bud og forskrifter, i samsvar med hele loven som jeg befalte deres fedre, og som jeg sendte til dere gjennom mine tjenere profetene."

14 Men de lyttet ikke, men gjorde sine nakker stive som deres fedre, som ikke trodde på Herren deres Gud.
