8 Nå dro David og hans menn opp og herjet gesjurittene, girsittene og amalekittene; for de var innbyggerne i landet fra gammel tid, når du kommer til Sjur, helt til Egyptens land.

9 Og David angrep landet og lot ikke en mann eller kvinne bli i live, men tok sauene, kveget, eslene, kamelene og klærne. Så vendte han tilbake og kom til Akisj.

Nå ville Akisj si, "Hvor har dere utført et raid i dag?" Og David ville si, "Mot Negev i Juda," eller "Mot Negev i jerahme’elittene," eller "Mot Negev i kenittene."

11 Og David lot ikke en mann eller kvinne bli i live, for å bringe til Gat, og sa, "Ellers vil de fortelle om oss og si, ‘Dette er hva David har gjort.’" Så David praktiserte denne oppførselen hele tiden han bodde i filistrenes land.

12 Så Akisj stolte på David og sa, "Han har sannelig gjort seg avskyelig for sitt folk Israel; derfor vil han være min tjener for alltid."
