4 Jeg vil dra ned til Egypt med deg, og jeg vil visselig føre deg tilbake igjen. Og Josef selv skal lukke dine øyne."

5 Så dro Jakob fra Beersheba, og Israels sønner transporterte sin far Jakob, sine barn og sine koner i vognene farao hadde sendt for ham.

De tok med seg buskapen og eiendelene de hadde skaffet seg i Kanaan, og dro til Egypt, Jakob og alle hans etterkommere med ham:

7 Hans sønner og sønnesønner, hans døtre og sønnedøtre—alle hans etterkommere tok han med seg til Egypt.

8 Dette er navnene på Israels sønner som dro til Egypt, Jakob og hans sønner: Ruben, Jakobs førstefødte.
