26 Nå Jeroboam, sønn av Nebat, en efraimitt fra Sereda, Salomos tjener—hans mors navn var Serua, en enke— løftet også sin hånd mot kongen.

27 Dette var grunnen til at han løftet sin hånd mot kongen: Salomo bygde Millo og lukket gapet i byen til sin far David.

Nå var mannen Jeroboam en tapper kriger, og da Salomo så at den unge mannen var flittig, utnevnte han ham over hele den tvangsarbeidende styrken til Josefs hus.

29 Nå skjedde det på den tiden, da Jeroboam dro ut av Jerusalem, at profeten Ahia fra Sjilo fant ham på veien. Nå hadde han kledd seg i en ny kappe, og de to var alene på marken.

30 Da tok Ahia tak i den nye kappen han hadde på seg og rev den i tolv stykker.
