4 Josefs etterkommere dannet to stammer, Manasse og Efraim. Levittene fikk ingen del av landet, bortsett fra byer å bo i, med beitemarker for deres buskap og eiendeler.
5 Israelittene gjorde som Herren hadde befalt Moses, og de delte landet.
Da kom Judas folk til Josva i Gilgal, og Kaleb, Jefunnes sønn, kenisitten, sa til ham: "Du vet hva Herren sa til Moses, Guds mann, om deg og meg i Kadesj-Barnea.
7 Jeg var førti år gammel da Moses, Herrens tjener, sendte meg fra Kadesj-Barnea for å utforske landet, og jeg kom tilbake med en rapport i samsvar med min overbevisning.
8 Men mine med-israelitter som dro opp med meg, fikk folkets hjerter til å smelte av frykt. Men jeg fulgte Herren min Gud helhjertet.
