4. Mosebok 5,22

20 Men hvis du har gått på avveie mens du var gift med din mann og har gjort deg uren ved å ha seksuell omgang med en annen mann enn din mann"—

21 da skal presten la kvinnen sverge en ed av forbannelse, og han skal si til henne: "må Herren gjøre deg til en forbannelse blant ditt folk når han får din livmor til å abortere og din mage til å svulme.

Må dette vannet som bringer forbannelse komme inn i kroppen din for å få magen din til å svulme og livmoren din til å abortere." Og kvinnen skal si: "Amen. Så være det."

23 "‘Presten skal skrive disse forbannelsene på en rull og vaske dem av i det bitre vannet.

24 Han skal få kvinnen til å drikke det bitre vannet som bringer forbannelse, og dette vannet som bringer forbannelse vil komme inn i henne og forårsake bitterhet.
