7 Han kalte stedet Massah og Meriba på grunn av israelittenes klandring, og fordi de satte Herren på prøve ved å spørre: «Er Herren blant oss eller ikke?»
8 Amalekittene kom og førte krig mot Israel ved Rephidim.
Moses instruerte Josva: «Velg ut menn for oss og gå ut for å kjempe mot Amalek. I morgen vil jeg stå på toppen av høyden med Guds stav i hånden.»
10 Josva gjorde som Moses befalte og kjempet mot Amalek, mens Moses, Aron og Hur gikk opp til toppen av høyden.
11 Hver gang Moses løftet hendene, hadde Israel overtaket; men når han senket hendene, hadde Amalek overtaket.
