8 Amalekittene kom og førte krig mot Israel ved Rephidim.
9 Moses instruerte Josva: «Velg ut menn for oss og gå ut for å kjempe mot Amalek. I morgen vil jeg stå på toppen av høyden med Guds stav i hånden.»
Josva gjorde som Moses befalte og kjempet mot Amalek, mens Moses, Aron og Hur gikk opp til toppen av høyden.
11 Hver gang Moses løftet hendene, hadde Israel overtaket; men når han senket hendene, hadde Amalek overtaket.
12 Moses' hender ble trette, så de plasserte en stein under ham, og han satte seg på den. Aron og Hur støttet hendene hans, én på hver side, så hendene hans holdt seg støe til solnedgang.
