³ Moses sa til folket: “Husk denne dagen, dagen dere kom ut av Egypt, ut av slavehuset, for Herren førte dere ut med en mektig hånd. Ikke spis noe som inneholder gjær.

⁴ Denne dagen markerer deres avreise i måneden Abib.

Når Herren fører dere inn i landet til kanaaneerne, hetittene, amorittene, hevittene og jebusittene, landet Han sverget til deres forfedre å gi dere, et land som flyter med melk og honning, skal dere holde denne seremonien i denne måneden:

⁶ I syv dager skal dere spise usyret brød, og på den syvende dagen skal dere holde en fest for Herren.

⁷ Spis usyret brød i disse syv dagene; ingenting med gjær skal sees blant dere, og ingen gjær skal sees noe sted innenfor deres grenser.
