8 Da spurte han: "Hvilken vei skal vi gå?" Joram svarte: "Gjennom Edoms ørken."

9 Så dro kongen av Israel, kongen av Juda og kongen av Edom ut. Etter en omvei på syv dager var det ikke vann for hæren eller for dyrene som fulgte dem.

Da sa kongen av Israel, "Å, nei! Herren har kalt disse tre kongene sammen bare for å overgi dem til Moab!"

11 Men Josjafat sa: "Er det ingen profet for Herren her, som vi kan spørre Herren gjennom?" En av tjenerne til kongen av Israel svarte: "Elisja, Sjafats sønn, er her. Han pleide å helle vann på Elias' hender."

12 Josjafat sa: "Herrens ord er med ham." Så gikk kongen av Israel, Josjafat og kongen av Edom ned til ham.
