14 Etter hvem har Israels konge kommet ut? Hvem forfølger du? En død hund, en enkelt loppe?

15 Måtte derfor Herren være dommer og avgjøre mellom deg og meg; og måtte Han se og opprettholde min sak og befri meg fra din hånd.»

Da David hadde talt disse ordene til Saul, sa Saul: «Er dette din stemme, min sønn David?» Da løftet Saul sin stemme og gråt.

17 Og han sa til David: «Du er mer rettferdig enn jeg; for du har behandlet meg godt, mens jeg har behandlet deg ondsinnet.

18 Du har vist i dag at du har gjort godt mot meg, at Herren overgav meg i din hånd, og likevel drepte du meg ikke.
