4. Mosebok 18,2

Levi

1 Herren talte til Aron og sa: "Du, dine sønner og din familie skal bære ansvaret for enhver overtredelse knyttet til helligdommen, og du og dine sønner alene skal bære ansvaret for enhver overtredelse knyttet til ditt prestedømme.

Ta med dine medlevitter, stammen til dine forfedre, for å slutte seg til deg og hjelpe deg mens du og dine sønner tjener foran vitnesbyrdets telt.

3 De skal være ansvarlige overfor deg og utføre oppgaver for hele teltet, men de må ikke nærme seg helligdommens møbler eller alteret, for at både de og du ikke skal dø.

4 De skal slutte seg til deg og ta seg av oppgavene ved møteteltet, alt arbeidet ved teltet, men ingen uautorisert person må komme nær deg.
