2 Han hadde en sønn som het Saul, en utvalgt og vakker ung mann. Blant Israels sønner var det ingen som var mer imponerende enn han; fra skuldrene og opp var han høyere enn noe av folket.

3 Nå hadde eslene til Kisj, Sauls far, gått seg bort. Så Kisj sa til sin sønn Saul: "Ta med deg en av tjenerne og gå og let etter eslene."

Han gikk gjennom fjellandet Efraim og gjennom landet Salisa, men de fant dem ikke. Så gikk de gjennom landet Sa'alim, og de var ikke der. Han gikk også gjennom Benjamins område, men de fant dem ikke.

5 Da de kom til landet Suf, sa Saul til sin tjener som var med ham: "Kom, la oss vende tilbake, ellers vil min far slutte å bekymre seg for eslene og begynne å bekymre seg for oss."

6 Men tjeneren sa: "Se nå, det er en Guds mann i denne byen, og han er en mann som holdes i ære. Alt han sier, går sikkert i oppfyllelse. La oss gå dit nå; kanskje han kan fortelle oss vår vei."
