17 Han sa til ham, "Frykt ikke, for min far Sauls hånd vil ikke finne deg, og du vil bli konge over Israel og jeg vil være nest etter deg; og Saul, min far, vet det også."

18 Så inngikk de to en pakt for Herrens åsyn. Og David ble ved Horesh, mens Jonatan vendte tilbake til sitt hjem.

Da kom Zifittene opp til Saul i Gibea og sa: "Er ikke David skjult hos oss i festningene ved Horesh, på Hachilas høyde, sør for Jeshimon?

20 Nå da, konge, kom ned, i henhold til alt ditt hjertes ønske å gjøre; og vår del skal være å overgi ham til kongen."

21 Saul sa: "Måtte dere bli velsignet av Herren, for dere har vist meg godhet.
