2 Det er forgjeves for dere å stå opp tidlig,
Å sitte oppe sent,
Å spise brødet av møysommelige anstrengelser;
For Han gir sine elskede søvn.

3 Se, barn er en gave fra Herren,
Livets frukt er en nådig belønning.

Som piler i en krigers hånd,
Slik er barn født i ens ungdom.

5 Salig er den mann som fyller sitt kogger;
De skal ikke bli til skamme
Når de møter sine fiender i porten.
