2 De talte til dem i Sjilo i Kanaans land og sa: "Herren befalte gjennom Moses å gi oss byer å bo i, sammen med beitemarker for buskapen vår."

3 Så, som Herren hadde befalt, ga israelittene levittene byer og beitemarker fra deres egen arv.

Det første loddet ble kastet for klanene til kehatittene. Så disse etterkommerne av Levi, etterkommerne av Aron presten, mottok ved lodd fra stammene Juda, Simeon og Benjamin, tretten byer.

5 De gjenværende etterkommerne av Kehat fikk tildelt ti byer fra familiene til stammene Efraim, Dan og halve Manasse.

6 Etterkommerne av Gersjon mottok tretten byer fra familiene til stammene Issakar, Asjer, Naftali og halve Manasse-stammen i Basan.
