2 Job var velsignet med syv sønner og tre døtre.

3 Hans eiendeler inkluderte syv tusen sauer, tre tusen kameler, fem hundre par okser, fem hundre esler, og en stor mengde tjenere. Han var den mest fremtredende mannen blant alle folkene i Østen.

Hans sønner pleide å holde gjestebud i sine hjem på sin bestemte dag, og de inviterte sine tre søstre til å spise og drikke med dem.

5 Når dagene med gjestebud var over, sendte Job bud etter dem og helliget dem. Tidlig om morgenen ofret han et brennoffer for hver av dem, og tenkte: "Kanskje mine barn har syndet og forbannet Gud i sine hjerter." Dette var Jobs vanlige praksis.

6 En dag kom Guds sønner for å presentere seg for Herren, og Satan kom også blant dem.
