Sefatja, Mattans sønn, Gedalja, Pashhurs sønn, Jukal, Sjelemjas sønn, og Pashhur, Malkias sønn, hørte de ordene som Jeremias talte til hele folket og sa:
2 "Så sier Herren: 'Den som blir i denne byen, skal dø ved sverd, sult eller pest, men den som overgir seg til kaldeerne, skal leve. De skal slippe unna med livet og leve.'
3 Så sier Herren: 'Denne byen skal visselig bli gitt i hendene på hæren til kongen av Babylon, og han skal innta den.'"
