Hosea 12,3

1 Efraim lever av vind,
Og jager stadig etter østvinden;
Han øker løgn og vold.
Dessuten gjør de en pakt med Assyria,
Og olje blir brakt til Egypt.

2 Herren har også en sak med Juda,
Og vil straffe Jakob etter hans veier;
Han vil gjengjelde ham etter hans gjerninger.

Allerede i mors liv grep han sin brors hæl,
Og som voksen kjempet han med Gud.

4 Ja, han kjempet med engelen og vant;
Han gråt og bad om nåde.
Han fant ham i Betel,
Og der talte han med oss,

5 Det vil si, Herren, hærskarenes Gud,
Herren er hans navn.

This was said to Israel at a particular time, so it is wise to read it together with the surrounding text. Do read the surrounding verses too, because the context often says more than a single verse.
