1 Paulus så nøye på Rådet og sa: «Brødre, jeg har oppført meg med god samvittighet for Gud til denne dag.»
Ved dette befalte ypperstepresten Ananias dem som sto nær ham, å slå Paulus på munnen.
3 Paulus svarte: «Gud skal slå deg, du kalkede vegg! Du sitter der for å dømme meg etter loven, men i strid med loven befaler du at jeg skal bli slått!»
4 De som sto der, sa: «Våger du å tale mot Guds yppersteprest?»
