⁶ Jeg så at kvinnen var drukken av de helliges blod og av Jesu vitners blod. Da jeg så henne, ble jeg meget forundret.

⁷ Da sa engelen til meg: «Hvorfor er du forundret? Jeg vil fortelle deg hemmeligheten om kvinnen og om dyret som bærer henne, som har de sju hoder og de ti horn.

Dyret som du så, var, og er ikke, og skal stige opp fra avgrunnen og gå til undergang. De som bor på jorden, de som ikke har fått sine navn skrevet i livets bok fra verdens grunnvoll ble lagt, skal undre seg når de ser dyret, fordi det var, og er ikke, og skal komme.

⁹ Her trengs det en forstand med visdom. De sju hoder er sju fjell som kvinnen sitter på.

¹⁰ De er også sju konger; fem er falt, én er, den andre er ennå ikke kommet; men når han kommer, skal han bli en kort tid.
