Vær nøye med å holde alle budene jeg gir deg i dag, så du kan leve og bli mange, og kan gå inn og ta i eie det landet Herren sverget til dine forfedre.

2 Og husk hele veien Herren din Gud har ledet deg gjennom i ørkenen disse førti årene, for å ydmyke deg og prøve deg, for å kjenne hva som var i ditt hjerte, om du ville holde Hans bud eller ikke.

3 Han ydmyket deg ved å la deg hungre, og så mettet Han deg med manna, som verken du eller dine fedre hadde kjent, for å få deg til å forstå at mennesket ikke lever av brød alene, men av hvert ord som kommer fra Herrens munn.
