2 Det var en mann i Maon som hadde sin virksomhet i Karmel; og denne mannen var svært rik, eide tre tusen sauer og tusen geiter. En anledning kom da han var i ferd med å klippe sauene sine i Karmel—

3 For mannens navn var Nabal, og hans kones navn var Abigail. Kvinnen var klok og vakker, men mannen var hard og uærlig i sine handlinger, og han var en kalebitt.
