2 Herren var med Josef, og han ble en velstående mann, boende i huset til sin egyptiske herre.

3 Hans herre la merke til at Herren var med ham og at Herren ga suksess til alt han foretok seg.

Josef vant velvilje i sin herres øyne og ble hans personlige tjener. Potifar satte ham over sitt hus, og betrodde ham alt han eide.

5 Fra den tid han satte ham til å styre sitt hus og alt han eide, velsignet Herren egypterens hus for Josefs skyld. Herrens velsignelse var over alt han hadde, både i huset og på markene.

6 Så Potifar overlot alt han hadde i Josefs varetekt, og med Josef som ansvarlig, bekymret han seg bare for maten han spiste. Nå var Josef vakker av skikkelse og utseende.
