17 Ismael levde 137 år. Han utåndet og døde, og ble samlet til sitt folk.

18 Hans etterkommere bosatte seg fra Havila til Sjur, som er øst for Egypt når du går mot Assyria; og de levde i opposisjon til alle sine slektninger.

Dette er beretningen om slektslinjen til Isak, Abrahams sønn: Abraham ble far til Isak,

20 og Isak var førti år gammel da han giftet seg med Rebekka, datteren til Betuel arameeren fra Paddan-Aram, og søsteren til Laban arameeren.

21 Isak ba til Herren på vegne av sin kone, fordi hun var barnløs. Herren svarte hans bønn, og hans kone Rebekka ble gravid.
