9 Og Ammons barn kom ut og stilte opp til kamp ved inngangen til byen,
og kongene som hadde kommet var for seg selv i marken.
10 Da Joab så at slaget var satt mot ham foran og bak,
valgte han ut alle de utvalgte mennene i Israel,
og de stilte opp mot arameerne.
Men resten av folket satte han under kommando av sin bror Abisjai,
og de stilte opp mot Ammons barn.
12 Og han sa,
“Hvis arameerne er for sterke for meg, så skal du hjelpe meg;
men hvis Ammons barn er for sterke for deg,
så vil jeg hjelpe deg.
13 Vær sterke, og la oss vise oss modige for vårt folks skyld
og for vår Guds byer;
og må Herren gjøre det som er godt i hans øyne.”
