Who is God?
Goal: The young people explore what the Bible says about God, and find words for their own questions and doubts.
Texts: 2. Mosebok 34,6–7 · Salmene 139 · Jesaja 40,28–31
Plan (60 min)
- 10 minDraw God. Everyone draws or writes “God is …” on a slip. Collect and read aloud, without names.
- 20 minRead three texts. Split into three groups, one text each. What does the text say about God? Underline three words. Open
- 10 minWords in the original text. Look at Exodus 34:6 in the original text. Which word means “gracious”? Open
- 15 minQuestions we cannot answer. Write questions about God on slips. Read some aloud. Do not answer everything; let some stay open. Open
- 5 minClosing. Read Psalm 139:1–6 aloud. Open
Questions for conversation
- What in the picture of God do you recognise?
- What in the picture of God is difficult?
Homework
- Homework: read Psalm 23 and write what surprises you.
The sessions are drafts written by us, made to be used and changed. Adapt them to the group, and choose texts from the church or tradition you belong to.
