The story in broad strokes
Goal: The young people get an overview of the story of the Bible from creation to the first church.
Texts: 1. Mosebok 1 · Josva 1 · Lukas 2 · Apostlenes gjerninger 2
Plan (60 min)
- 10 minWhat do we know about the Bible?. Each writes five events on slips of paper, without saying where they are.
- 20 minLay the timeline. Sort the slips in order, then compare with the timeline. What did you get right, and what surprised you? Open
- 15 minOld maps. Choose two periods on the old maps. How does the land differ? Open
- 10 minRed thread. What runs through from beginning to end? Each writes down one word.
- 5 minClosing. Read aloud: Luke 2:1–7. Two minutes of silence. Open
Questions for conversation
- Which event do you think is most important, and why?
- What does the story say about how God relates to people?
Homework
- Homework: choose a person from the timeline and read about them on the person page.
The sessions are drafts written by us, made to be used and changed. Adapt them to the group, and choose texts from the church or tradition you belong to.
