Praying
Goal: The young people explore prayer: what it is, how the Bible prays, and how they can pray.
Texts: Matteus 6,5–15 · Salmene 13 · Salmene 23
Plan (60 min)
- 10 minWhat is prayer?. Complete the sentence: “Prayer is …”. Collect the answers.
- 20 minRead prayers in the Bible. Read Psalm 13 and the Lord’s Prayer. What differs? What is the same? What does the psalmist dare to say? Open
- 15 minWrite your own. Write a short prayer in three lines: thanks, longing, asking. Nobody has to read aloud.
- 10 minSilence. Five minutes of silence. One verse can be read aloud at the start.
- 5 minClosing. The Lord’s Prayer together, for those who wish.
Questions for conversation
- What makes it hard to pray?
- What happens if no answer comes?
Homework
- Homework: pray a short prayer each evening for a week and note what happens.
The sessions are drafts written by us, made to be used and changed. Adapt them to the group, and choose texts from the church or tradition you belong to.
