24 De svarte Josva: “Dine tjenere ble klart informert om at Herren din Gud befalte sin tjener Moses å gi dere hele landet og å ødelegge alle dets innbyggere foran dere. Så vi fryktet sterkt for våre liv på grunn av dere, og det er derfor vi handlet slik.
25 Nå er vi i dine hender. Gjør med oss hva du mener er godt og rett.”
Så sparte Josva dem fra israelittene, og de ble ikke drept.
27 Den dagen gjorde han gibeonittene til vedhuggere og vannbærere for forsamlingen og for Herrens alter, på det stedet Han ville velge. Og det er hva de er den dag i dag.
