14 Israelittene smakte på provianten deres, men søkte ikke råd hos Herren.
15 Så gjorde Josva fred med dem og opprettet en pakt om å la dem leve, og lederne av forsamlingen stadfestet det med ed.
Tre dager etter at de hadde inngått pakten med gibeonittene, fikk israelittene vite at de var naboer som bodde blant dem.
17 Israelittene dro av sted og nådde på den tredje dagen deres byer: Gibeon, Kefira, Beerot og Kirjat-Jearim.
18 Men israelittene angrep dem ikke, fordi lederne av forsamlingen hadde sverget en ed til dem ved Herren, Israels Gud. Hele forsamlingen murret mot lederne,
