8 De svarte Josva: “Vi er dine tjenere.” Josva spurte dem: “Hvem er dere, og hvor kommer dere fra?”

9 De svarte: “Dine tjenere har kommet fra et meget fjernt land på grunn av ryktet om Herren din Gud, for vi har hørt om alt det Han gjorde i Egypt,

og alt det Han gjorde med de to kongene av amorittene bortenfor Jordan—Sihon, kongen av Hesjbon, og Og, kongen av Basan, som regjerte i Asjtarot.

11 Våre eldste og alle innbyggerne i vårt land sa til oss: ‘Ta med proviant for reisen og dra for å møte dem. Si til dem: “Vi er deres tjenere; inngå en pakt med oss.”’

12 Dette brødet vårt var varmt da vi pakket det den dagen vi dro for å komme til dere, men nå se hvor tørt og smuldret det er.
