1 Lederne for levittenes familier nærmet seg Eleasar, presten, Josva, Nuns sønn, og overhodene for familiene til Israels stammer.

De talte til dem i Sjilo i Kanaans land og sa: "Herren befalte gjennom Moses å gi oss byer å bo i, sammen med beitemarker for buskapen vår."

3 Så, som Herren hadde befalt, ga israelittene levittene byer og beitemarker fra deres egen arv.

4 Det første loddet ble kastet for klanene til kehatittene. Så disse etterkommerne av Levi, etterkommerne av Aron presten, mottok ved lodd fra stammene Juda, Simeon og Benjamin, tretten byer.
