4 Dagen etter Gedaljas drap, før noen visste om det,
5 kom åtti menn fra Sikem, Sjilo og Samaria med skjegget barbert, klærne revet i stykker og kroppene skåret, med grødeoffer og røkelse til Herrens hus.
Ismael, sønn av Netanja, dro fra Mispa for å møte dem, gråtende mens han nærmet seg. Da han møtte dem, sa han: «Kom til Gedalja, sønn av Akikam.»
7 Så snart de kom inn i byen, slaktet Ismael, sønn av Netanja, og mennene med ham dem og kastet dem i en brønn.
8 Men ti av dem sa til Ismael: «Ikke drep oss! Vi har hvete, bygg, olje og honning gjemt på marken.» Så han lot være og drepte dem ikke sammen med de andre.
