1 Samson dro ned til Timna, og der så han en ung kvinne, en av filisterne.

Da han kom tilbake, fortalte han sin far og mor: "Jeg har sett en kvinne i Timna av filisterne; nå må dere ordne det slik at hun blir min kone."

3 Hans far og mor spurte ham: "Er det ingen passende kvinne blant dine egne slektninger eller blant vårt folk, at du må gå til de uomskårne filisterne for å få en kone?" Men Samson insisterte overfor sin far: "Få henne til meg, for hun behager meg."

4 Hans foreldre var uvitende om at dette var fra Herren, som søkte en anledning til å handle mot filisterne, ettersom de hersket over Israel på den tiden.
