37 Balak sa til Bileam: «Sendte jeg deg ikke en hastemelding? Hvorfor kom du ikke til meg? Er jeg virkelig ute av stand til å belønne deg?»
38 Bileam svarte: «Vel, jeg har kommet til deg nå. Men kan jeg si hva som helst? Jeg må bare tale det Gud legger i min munn.»
Bileam fulgte da Balak til Kirjat-Husot.
40 Balak ofret storfe og sauer, og delte dem med Bileam og tjenestemennene som var med ham.
41 Neste morgen tok Balak Bileam opp til Ba'als høyder, og derfra kunne han se en del av israelittenes leir.
