16 Da engelen rakte ut sin hånd mot Jerusalem for å ødelegge det, angret Herren det onde, og sa til engelen som ødela folket, "Det er nok! Nå, hold tilbake din hånd!" Og Herrens engel var ved treskeplassen til Arauna jebusitten.
17 Da talte David til Herren da han så engelen som slo folket, og sa: "Se, det er jeg som har syndet, og det er jeg som har gjort urett; men disse sauene, hva har de gjort? La din hånd være mot meg og min fars hus!"
Så kom Gad til David den dagen og sa til ham, "Gå opp, bygg et alter for Herren på treskeplassen til Arauna jebusitten."
19 David gikk opp i samsvar med Gads ord, slik som Herren hadde befalt.
20 Arauna så ned og så kongen og hans tjenere komme over mot ham, og han gikk ut og bøyde seg for kongen med ansiktet mot jorden.
