15 Da arameerne så at de var blitt beseiret av Israel, slo de seg sammen igjen.

16 Og Hadadeser sendte bud og førte ut arameerne som var bortenfor Eufrat-elven, og de kom til Helam; og Sjobak, Hadadesers hærfører, ledet dem.

Da dette ble rapportert til David, samlet han hele Israel, krysset Jordan og kom til Helam. Og arameerne stilte seg opp for å møte David og kjempet mot ham.

18 Men arameerne flyktet fra Israel, og David drepte sju hundre stridsvognskjørere av arameerne og førti tusen ryttere, og slo ned Sjobak, deres hærfører, og han døde der.

19 Da alle kongene som var Hadadesers tjenere så at de var blitt beseiret av Israel, sluttet de fred med Israel og tjente dem. Så arameerne våget ikke å hjelpe ammonittene mer.
