14 Gud sa til Moses: «JEG ER DEN JEG ER. Dette skal du si til israelittene: ‘JEG ER har sendt meg til dere.’»

15 Gud sa også til Moses: «Si til israelittene: ‘Herren, deres fedres Gud—Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud—har sendt meg til dere.’ Dette er mitt navn for evig, navnet som jeg skal minnes med fra slekt til slekt.

«Gå, samle Israels eldste og si til dem: ‘Herren, deres fedres Gud—Abrahams, Isaks og Jakobs Gud—har vist seg for meg og sagt: Jeg har våket over dere og sett hva som er blitt gjort mot dere i Egypt.

17 Og jeg har lovet å føre dere opp fra deres lidelser i Egypt til kanaaneernes, hetittenes, amorittenes, perisittenes, hevittenes og jebusittenes land—et land som flyter med melk og honning.’

18 «Israels eldste vil høre på deg. Da skal du og de eldste gå til kongen i Egypt og si til ham: ‘Herren, hebreernes Gud, har møtt oss. La oss få dra tre dagsreiser ut i ørkenen for å ofre til Herren vår Gud.’
