10 Da sa han til dem: «Herren være med dere hvis jeg lar dere dra med deres små! Klart dere har onde hensikter.

11 Nei! Bare mennene kan dra og tjene Herren, siden det er det dere ønsker.» Så ble Moses og Aron drevet ut fra faraos nærvær.

Da sa Herren til Moses: «Rekk ut hånden din over Egyptens land for gresshoppene, så de kan komme over landet og fortære hver plante i landet, alt som er igjen etter haglet.»

13 Så rakte Moses ut staven sin over Egyptens land, og Herren sendte en østlig vind over landet hele den dagen og hele natten. Om morgenen hadde vinden brakt gresshoppene.

14 Gresshoppene kom opp over hele Egyptens land og slo seg ned i hele Egyptens område i stort antall. Aldri før hadde det vært en slik plage av gresshopper, og det vil aldri bli igjen.
