1 Josjia var åtte år gammel da han begynte å regjere, og han regjerte i trettien år i Jerusalem. Hans mors navn var Jedida, datter av Adaja fra Boskat.

2 Han gjorde det som var rett i Herrens øyne, og vandret på alle sin far Davids veier, og vek ikke av til høyre eller venstre.

I det attende året av kong Josjias regjering, sendte kongen Sjafan, sønn av Asalja, sønn av Mesjullam, skriveren, til Herrens hus og sa,

4 "Gå opp til Hilkia, ypperstepresten, så han kan telle pengene som er brakt inn i Herrens hus, som dørvaktene har samlet inn fra folket.

5 Og la dem gi det til arbeiderne som har tilsyn med Herrens hus, og la dem gi det til arbeiderne som er i Herrens hus for å reparere skadene på huset,
