19 Men folket nektet å høre på Samuel. "Nei!" sa de. "Vi vil ha en konge til å styre over oss.
20 Da vil vi være som alle de andre folkene, med en konge til å lede oss og gå foran oss og kjempe våre kamper."
Da Samuel hørte alt folket sa, formidlet han det til Herren.
22 Og Herren sa til Samuel: "Hør på dem og sett en konge over dem." Da sa Samuel til Israels menn: "Hver av dere gå tilbake til deres egen by."
