6 Filisterne hørte lyden av ropet og spurte: “Hva er dette høye ropet i hebreernes leir?” Da de fikk vite at Herrens ark var kommet inn i leiren,

7 ble filisterne redde. “En gud har kommet inn i deres leir,” sa de. “Ve oss! Noe slikt har aldri skjedd før.

Ve oss! Hvem kan redde oss fra hendene til disse mektige gudene? Dette er gudene som slo egypterne med alle slags plager i ørkenen.

9 Ta mot til dere og vær menn, filistere, ellers vil dere bli slaver for hebreerne, slik de var for dere. Vær menn, og kjemp!”

10 Så kjempet filisterne, og Israel ble beseiret. Hver mann flyktet til sitt telt. Slaktingen var veldig stor—tretti tusen fotsoldater fra Israel falt.
